Elon Musk launches ‘Burnt Hair’ perfume for £93 – and he’s already sold thousands despite calling it ‘repugnant’

ELON Musk appears to have turned another bizarre joke into a real product – as he launched a £93 perfume called Burnt Hair.

Thousands of bottles of the scent – advertised as “the essence of repugnant desire” – were sold within hours after the eccentric tycoon unveiled it on Twitter last night.

A product shot shows the cologne – jokily called Burnt Hair by Singed – in a gaudy red bottle surrounded by wisps of smoke.

An unattributed testimonial on the sales page boasts: “Just like leaning over a candle at the dinner table, but without all the hard work.”

Another says: “Stand out in a crowd! Get noticed as you walk through the airport” – echoing Musk’s own Twitter joke last month.

Curious fans can buy a bottle today through Musk’s Boring Company website for $100, and you can pay by Dogecoin in the US.

In the UK it costs £93 plus a whopping £33 for international shipping.

However it apparently won’t actually be shipped until early next year, meaning it won’t arrive in time for Christmas.

Tesla and SpaceX boss Musk – the world’s richest man – changed his Twitter bio to “perfume salesman” as he launched it last night.

He said it is “omnigender” and called it “the finest fragrance on Earth”.

And he added: “With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable – why did I even fight it for so long?”

Musk later tweeted that 10,000 bottles had been sold, earning him over $1million in hours.

Hundreds of thrilled fans revealed they had bought one or even several.

Others enjoyed Musk’s joke, with one saying: “World class trolling, the perfect follow up to not-a-flamethrower. 10/10.”

Another said: “Just ordered for my husband…sadly he doesn’t have hair to burn so…this is perfect.”

The Boring Company previously made a flame-shooting device called Not-A-Flamethrower and sold all 20,000 units in a few days.

It started as a thowaway joke but then Musk decided to make real ones to raise funds for his tunnelling project.

Twitter stunts

The perfume product launch comes two weeks after Musk trailed the idea in a series of tweets.

He said: “‘Burnt Hair’ – Scent for Men by Singed. Coming soon from @BoringCompany, the same people that sold you a Flamethrower.

“Stand out in a crowd! Get noticed as you walk through the airport!”

After a baffled reaction from many online, Musk added: “I guess this joke is a slow burn…”, with a drumroll emoji.

Musk is known for outlandish stunts on Twitter, some of which have landed him in hot water.

He has heavily promoted joke cryptocurrency Dogecoin, sending its price fluctuating wildly with his comments.

He is now being sued for a ludicrous $258bn in a lawsuit alleging a crypto scam.

And he was rebuked by the US Securities and Exchange Commission after tweeting he wanted to take Tesla back into private ownership.

Musk was forced to step down as chairman of the electric car maker in a deal with the regulator.

Meanwhile Musk’s $44bn takeover of Twitter is now back on following months of bitter legal wranglings.

After a U-turn, he said he wants to make it part of “X”, his idea for a new “everything app”.
