Mexican President Posts Proof that Mythical Creature is Real

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador caused a stir this past weekend when he shared a mysterious photo on his Twitter account of what he believes could be a mythological creature from Mayan folklore. The engineer who took the image was surveying the jungle surrounding the Yucatan peninsula to decide the location of a tourist train line – one of the president’s pet projects.

The comment that accompanied the photo stated, “I share two photos of our supervision of the Mayan Train works. One, taken by an engineer three days ago, apparently from an aluxe. Another, by Diego Prieto, of a splendid pre-Hispanic sculpture in Ek Balam. Everything is mystical.” The post also included a picture depicting a pre-historic carving of the much-fabled little devil.

The president’s remark spurred a variety of comments from followers, with some insisting it was a real entity and others thinking it was a wild boar. According to ancient Mayan lore, the aluxe is a mythological creature that is supposedly part human, part animal. It is known to be a trickster, able to assume different forms, and is constantly causing severe mischief.

In any case, Lopez Obrador’s post has effectively raised an interesting discussion surrounding the rare creature and the pre-Hispanic culture in general. It has also highlighted his commitment to cultural preservation, given he’s a devoted crusader for indigenous values and beliefs.
